Aquaterrarium & Paludarium design elements

Aquaterrarium

The aquarium terrarium is an aquarium with a small land area and a lowered water level. The land part consists of a stone slab or cork island.

Islands & seating areas:Stable seat plates, pieces of cork, stones, roots that protrude from the water are important elements
Plants:Robust aquatic and marsh plants, small tropical water lilies, floating plants, mussel flowers, water hyacinths.

If turtles live in the terrarium, plants should be kept on branches or in pots out of the reach of the inhabitants.

Ground:Gravel, coarse sand

Paludarium

The paludarium, which provides a habitat for amphibians, geckos and fish, is a mixture of aquatic and terrestrial habitat.

A high terrarium part is connected to an aquarium part.

This requires the entire equipment of an aquarium with filter, separate lighting and the equipment of a rainforest terrarium.

The paludarium is more suitable for experienced aquarists and terrarium keepers.

Upper terrace area:Criteria as in the tropical rainforest terrarium
Plants:Climbing plants (Philodendron and Monstera species), stilt roots, screw trees, lianas, epiphyte branches, bromeliads, tree climbers, tropical bear moss
Ground:Aquarium gravel
Water area:Bogwood, mangrove roots that protrude from the water. Eye candy, sword plants, ears of water, swamp screws, water lilies, floating leaves, Ludwigia, pennywort, pennywort, tradescantia, philodendron
